5TH ANNUAL FOODSMITHS CHARITY DOG WASH
Sat June 16, 9:00 – 2:00 pm
If your four-legged friend is looking a little scruffy, he can take heart, for the canine social event of the season is coming soon at Foodsmiths. On Saturday June 16 between 9 am and 2 pm, Rover can enjoy some pampering, and visit with other dogs and their humans at the 5th annual Foodsmiths Charity Dog Wash in support of LAWS (Lanark Animal Welfare Society). Dog owners can bring their pets to be thoroughly and lovingly washed by experienced LAWS volunteers for a donation of $10-15, depending on the size of the dog.
As always, dogs will receive doggie bags of treats provided by Foodsmiths' pet goods suppliers. As a new feature this year, professional photographer Ralph Buttrum, will take portrait photos of your dog for a $15 fee − all to be donated to LAWS.
The Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) is a registered charity, "dedicated to promoting the well-being of all animals", which is funded solely by private donations and fundraising events like the Dog Wash. Since 1986 it has operated a shelter near Smiths Falls, which can house 100 dogs, cats and other pets at once, at least 2500 animals per year. It is an affiliate of the Ontario SPCA. A small paid staff and many volunteers keep the shelter going and in good repair. There is an ongoing need for improving the facilities to house more animals and provide better temporary living quarters for them. More information is available at the LAWS website, www.lanarkanimals.ca.
Since the first Dog Wash in 2003, hundreds of animals have been pampered and contributed thousands of dollars to their friends' wellbeing through the activities of LAWS. According to Claire Smith, co-owner of Foodsmiths, the annual event has been so popular because "LAWS is a charitable organization that matters to us, to our customers and staff alike."
The Dog Wash runs from 9 am to 2 pm, Sat June 16, in Foodsmiths' large parking lot at 106 Wilson St W, so be sure to mark that date on your calendar. You'll take home a happy, clean dog and know that you've contributed to one of Lanark County's most essential charitable organizations. See www.foodsmiths.com or call Foodsmiths at 613-267-5409 ext 110 for more information.

I won't be able to attend this year (I'll be in Newfoundland...a little far to travel!) but I encourage everyone to attend this fun event at Foodsmiths in Perth.
I've been there in past years, and there's lots of activity going on. Take your dog(s), get them cleaned up, and contribute to a great charity (LAWS)!
You will get a clean dog, your dog will get a Barking Biscuit Hot Dog! bone (and other goodies), and LAWS will get some much needed funds.
Have fun!
