Forever Friends Dog Training |
|
Cheryl Smith owns and operates Forever Friends Dog Training located at Unit 6, 17 Grenfell Crescent, Ottawa, ON K2G 0G3. She is a born communicator and educator who specializes in canine behaviour and offers a variety of classes using positive training techniques.
Cheryl is a charter member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (A.P.D.T.), has spoken at conferences in Memphis, Houston, St. Louis and Chicago and has conducted highly acclaimed workshops and seminars around the globe, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Portland, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Richmond, VA Washington, DC, Pickering, Kingston, Kemptville, Ottawa, Toronto, Port Hope, Sudbury, Calgary and Japan.
As an internationally recognized behaviourist and trainer, Cheryl was chosen to participate on the American Humane Society and Delta Society sponsored committee tasked with the development of ethics and practices from humane dog training. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors for Therapeutic Paws of Canada and the National Capital Coalition for People and Dogs.
Cheryl developed the concept of “Growl Classes”, using humane behaviour modification techniques to retrain dogs that display aggressive behaviour towards humans and/or other dogs. These classes are in such high demand that she is often requested to take the classes on the road to other locations. She is the author of "Biting, Barking, Lunging, Growling" (retraining an anxious fearful dog without intimidation). She is also recognized as an expert witness on dog behaviour by Canadian courts.
When not teaching, lecturing or testifying, Cheryl is active in the community, donating her time and talent to people and animals in need. In 2005 she partnered with other local businesses in a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and in February 2006 put together a fundraiser for the victims of the Asian Tsunami. On an ongoing basis, she generously volunteers her expertise to numerous rescues, assisting in temperament assessments and training for dogs that are looking for their forever homes.
Cheryl shares her home with two dogs, Chica and Drago, and five cats, Laylah, Moon Shadow, Sundancer, Doodad and Clyde Spiritwalker.
Dr. Ian Dunbar calls Cheryl, “one of the top trainers” but her students and friends know her as a compassionate, gentle friend who is a dedicated and talented dog trainer guru.

All three of our dogs went to school at Forever Friends, and a couple of our foster dogs. They are great. I will be going back for another set of classes with my youngest, Noelle.
